Many of the critics’ make note of it as well but Hanks is superb here and should’ve been nominated for his under-acting With Hanks this makes a nice comparison with captain phillips- which I adored- from 2013. Specifically their reaction shots and scenes in the hospital are two the best scenes in the films- both very different but powerful More a triumph of Hanks than Eastwood Supposedly the 2nd leg of Eastwood’s hero trilogy after American sniper in 2014 Hanks’ is certainly this modern day Jimmy Stewart- he’s impossible not to like and it’s hard to see anyone else

The Outlaw Josey Wales – 1976 Eastwood

Love the simple revenge story that certainly has many film counterparts including more recent updates including braveheart and gladiator. Woefully underrated in Feb 2017 at #952 on TSPDT Originally was directed by Philip Kaufman (the right stuff) but was apparently thrown overboard by Eastwood Certainly a mark of Eastwood as an auteur is the retribution themes throughout Eastwood’s career.
