• Many of the critics’ make note of it as well but Hanks is superb here and should’ve been nominated for his under-acting
  • With Hanks this makes a nice comparison with captain phillips– which I adored- from 2013. Specifically their reaction shots and scenes in the hospital are two the best scenes in the films- both very different but powerful
  • More a triumph of Hanks than Eastwood
  • Supposedly the 2nd leg of Eastwood’s hero trilogy after American sniper in 2014
  • Hanks’ is certainly this modern day Jimmy Stewart- he’s impossible not to like and it’s hard to see anyone else play this role as well
  • There’s a beautiful poetry in the simplicity of eastwood’s editing- the poetry of the people in the film doing their job- its set up verbally and through the editing—everyone is efficient, practical, even utilitarian- perfect for Clint’s directing style. “We did our job”
