• Randolph Scott is absolutely perfect as Hawkeye
  • If you can get past the racial implications of casting Bruce Cabot as Magua (it’s 1936)- he’s pretty terrific in the role
  • There’s a tremendous dolly-in during the epic battle- absolutely perfect
  • Very engaging and entertaining film- it’s not high art—especially if you compare it with Michael Mann’s 1992 film- but it’s far above the average film both now and in 1936
  • Devastating finale with the jumping off the cliff scene
  • Borderline top 10 of 1936
  • Recommend/ Highly Recommend border
