• I’ve seen it twice now and it’s a little more of a modest recommend than I had remembered from my first viewing
  • I love how, like 24 hour party people, it’s absolutely hilarious and reflexive. It borrows from many great films but chief among them is annie hall. Coogan even quotes Groucho Marx and they cut to him as a young boy in scene (like annie hall) and say “…even as a boy”
  • Influenced by fellini, specifically 8 ½ with actors talking to the camera as the camera moves (and actors back up) like Fellini and since it’s about the struggle of filmmaking (day for night amongst others as well) it has that as an 8 ½ influence… Nino rota score, too
  • Great “womb with a view” joke from “A room with a view” riff
  • Iris work in editing—split screen in a few spots as well
  • In the archives but not in the top 10 of 2005
