• It’s mainly in the archives for the photographic slow-motion work of athletic bodies in motion by Towne and DP Michael Chapman.  Chapman is the dp for taxi driver and raging bull– this film can’t compare with those two, even in that element, but it is a conscious and appreciated (and well executed aesthetic decision)- it certainly riffs off Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia and in some ways chariots of fire
  • A slight meditation on competition
  • Hemingway is good as is Scott Glenn who is perfect as trainer/coach
  • Towne is an inarguably great writer (Chinatown) but this is not particularly well written
  • Recommend- not near the top 10 of 1982
