Thelma & Louise – 1991 Ridley Scott
- It’s one of Scott’s better non Alien/Blade Runner efforts—superbly acted, great Hans Zimmer Score, landscape photography in Utah
- I think it owes a lot to Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid. It’s a buddy movie of outlaws on the run, great star-power acting, they even joke about lying to each other as part of the denial of the fatal ending—freeze frame ending
- Sarandon as the waitress- amazing- her performance during the scene where she kills the man outside the bar. She’s wide-eyed and traumatized by her past which she doesn’t talk about (and the movie doesn’t show—which I love) incident in Texas. It’s a powerful scene, great actor
- Loyalty and friendship- an anthem for feminism
- Superb ensemble- Michael Madsen and Harvey Keitel add so much (a year later they’d be together in Reservoir Dogs)
- It’s a star-maker for Brad Pitt. It’s his first archiveable film and it’s fantastic scene-chewing. How many small performances have a scene like that bank robbery with the hair dryer scene?

- Polaroid shot freeze frame – they’d do it again at the ending- that’s a nice stylistic touch and blending of form

- There are some narrative issues- I don’t believe Louise (Sarandon) would put the Geena Davis Thelma character in charge of her entire life savings for a night.
- Like Madsen smoking lucky strikes
- The minimalist guitar score is superb- fatalism- inspired contemporary soundtrack to compliment
- Landscapes-monument valley
- I love Davis’ transformation as she takes over control and has sex with Pitt—I love it
- Oscar-winning screenplay
- Dueling red hair on the road in that car is quite a sight
- Divergent scenes that struggle—the scenes where they shoot up the semi and the scene where the biker blows marijuana into the cop’s trunk feel gratuitous and piling-on
- HR- top 10 of the year worthy film
