- Another film to embrace the square 1.33 : 1 frame- First Reformed, Cold War, A Ghost Story, sections of Grand Budapest
- 90’s nostalgia and some coming of age clichés- it’s a borderline recommend- but there’s enough here- I can see the influence of Kids and Scorsese

- Trent Reznor does the score- quite a coup- there’s not much in it but it’s very good

- There’s a nice long take set shot of them skating at the camera in traffic- it comes again later to the Morrissey song
- I hate to pick on him but I had a problem with Sunny Suljic’s lead performance- I felt like he kept smirking the entire time like Jimmy Fallon during an SNL skit
- Very solid Scorsese-esque tracking shot following the Olan Prenatt actor with blonde hair around the party and throwing 40’s—later in that party scene Hill edits it to the beat of the song- nice touch
- Na-kel Smith and Suljic have a nice scene together that reminded me of the final Ice Cube scene with Cuba Gooding at the end of Boyz in the Hood

- With the short running time (85 mins) and Hill’s comedic talents as a writer this atmospheric film is never a bad hang-
- Recommend- fringe- not near the top 10 of 2018
Jonah Hill’s directorial follow-up to Mid90s, Outcome (2026) with Keanu Reeves doesn’t seem to be faring very well at all. Infact, it has landed with a major thud (4.5 on IMDb, 27% on Rotten Tomatoes).
@Malith – it had shockingly good lighting but so many the jokes don’t land and were a bit crude. The commentary on celebrity is decent but a bit played out at this point. Jonah Hill’s character is grattingly annoying and makes the film hard to watch at times.I was surprised how good it looked though. I have it around #9 for the year so far.
I say shocked because with a comedian director, you expect a funny film that’s probably going to be full of basic, the the point shots and this was the opposite of both.
