• Flawed but some very notable peaks as well here to make this one archiveable like the previous three films
  • It’s largely a love story (and a good one) between Tom Hanks’ Woody and Annie Potts’ Bo Peep
  • Randy Newman has a new one here—it’s not up to par with this past work for the franchise sadly, and the trusty old “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” is too well-worn at this point—feels like we’re tuning again to our regularly scheduled sitcom
  • New characters in this sprawling universe—“Forky” as a character invention (an important first day of school) is very smart—but the execution here (writing in particular and the voice work)
  • Three jaw-dropping visual highlights—the shot of Woody and Bo Peep under the car in the rain, the shot of the chandeliers in the antique place, and the shot with the Ferris Wheel in the backdrop at the end- which feels at least a little like Woody’s “Wonder Wheel” and the set piece work there
