WarGames – 1983 Badham
- WarGames got a deserving screenplay nom for updating fail safe and Strangelove for the 80’s
- Broderick’s skill shows both intelligence and mischief- two qualities that he would do again (and more successfully) in ferris bueller’s day off
- Like Strangelove– we have a southern military man. Barry Corbin is good here- chewing red man- much like slim picken’s character in Strangelove
- There are certainly elements of ET here as Broderick is on the run from the government—and the score is very John Williams derivative
- The theatre laser-show ending in front of the government is from close encounters so the film owes a lot to Spielberg
- The doctors obsession with dinosaurs and extinction is a nice touch
- Recommend but not in the top 10 of 1983
